Panorama Cyclocross Race Report

Well the weather was supposed to be sloppy, wet, cold and rainy. Everything cyclocross is supposed to be. With dread, I awoke early on Sunday to head down to the race, early to help out the club in setting up.
Turns out the weather gods were smiling on all of us crossers. Sure it rained the night before, but by the morning, the sun was out, no clouds, and the temperature was building to the 50’s throughout the day. You couldn’t ask for better weather in December.
Richard had modified the course from the all field track of the first race. It now ran part in the fields and part in the mulch piles. The fields drained water very well, the mulch pile area didn’t drain at all. So by race time, you had a fast field section followed by a sticky wet mud through the mulch pile sections, making some slow going as your back tire spun like a monster truck, rooster tailing mud behind you.
Needless to say it was
- exhausting
- dicey
- fun
In what cross was supposed to be. I raced in the Masters 35+ category, coming in 5th and more importantly, staying upright and uninjured.
And that’s it for my cross season. Next race will probably be Jeff Cup in March
